The Oregon coast contains some of the most beautiful spots of shoreline in the country, and some of the world’s most photographed beaches. Lensmaster ArtbyLinda shows us why these sandy beaches of the Pacific Northwest are a great place to windsurf, hike, explore lighthouses or just sit back and relax in her lens, Visit the Oregon Coast.

The lens starts off featuring the Northern Oregon town of Astoria (remember, that town from The Goonies?). While there may not be any pirate ghost ship here, the town sits at the mouth of the Columbia River and has a thriving art community. It is also just across the river from the state of Washington.

From there, let’s skip right over to my favorite town in Oregon, Cannon Beach. I visited this town in 2005 on a road trip down the west coast and was amazed by the scenery on this beach. While the weather may not always be so warm in this area of the Pacific, the lively scenery more than makes up for it. Huge mountain rock formations look like they were dropped from the sky into the open ocean, the biggest being “Haystack Rock.” It’s a popular tourist destination and a vacation getaway for Portland, Oregon residents.

Depoe Bay is another beautiful small beachside town on the Oregon Coast. You might recognize the town from the Guinness Book of World Records as the “World’s Smallest Harbor.”

Further south lies the halfway point of the Oregon coast, Florence. This city sits at the mouth of the Siuslaw River, and is another perfect stop on your trip down Route 101. Florence is home to the famous Sea Lion Caves, which is also directly accessible from Highway 101. The Steller Sea Lions call this huge cave home all year long. From the Sea Lion Caves, you can catch a glimpse of the Heceta Head Lighthouse, one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. Linda also has some excellent photos of some seals in nearby Lincoln City.

The Oregon coast is the perfect vacation to plan for a beautiful scenic journey. It lacks the crowds of California, but has possibly an even more impressive coastline and better beaches. If you’re looking for places to stay on the Oregon coast, Linda has listed hundreds of hotels to check out!
